Chris Jones, Chief of Emergency Services, and Wayne Ruffner, Security Lead, have been awarded the Patriot Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) after being nominated by Tyler Cluff, a security officer at Textron Aviation and first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

The Patriot Award recognizes supervisors who provide exceptional support to National Guard and Reserve members as they balance military service and civilian careers. The honor reflects Textron Aviation’s commitment to fostering a workplace where service members can continue answering the call to serve their country while pursuing meaningful professional growth.

For Cluff, the nomination was an opportunity to recognize the support he has received throughout his 13-year military career. From military training and service obligations to career development opportunities, Jones and Ruffner have created an environment where military service is respected, valued and viewed as a strength.

That support became especially meaningful while Cluff attended Officer Training School earlier this year. The demanding course required significant time, focus and commitment. Throughout the process, Jones and Ruffner supported his military obligations and professional development, demonstrating the type of leadership and workplace flexibility that inspired him to nominate them for the ESGR Patriot Award.

I nominated Chris Jones and Wayne Ruffner because of their unwavering support of my service in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Their leadership goes beyond simply complying with requirements. They actively foster an environment where service members are valued, supported and encouraged to continue serving. ESGR, a Department of War program, works to strengthen relationships between civilian employers and employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. Earlier this year, Textron Aviation signed ESGR's Statement of Support, reaffirming its commitment to supporting Guard members and Reservists. For Ruffner, a military veteran, the recognition was especially meaningful because it came from a member of his own team.

"Being nominated by Tyler and receiving the Patriot Award is truly humbling," Ruffner said. "The men and women serving in the Guard and Reserve make sacrifices on behalf of all of us. Being able to support them in return is both a privilege and a responsibility. I am grateful to Tyler for the nomination and proud of the service he provides to our country and to Textron Aviation."

The recognition of Jones and Ruffner reflects Textron Aviation's ongoing commitment to creating an environment where Guard members and Reservists never have to choose between serving their country and building rewarding careers.
