Textron Aviation is proud to support and prepare the next generation of aviation professionals through state registered apprenticeship programs. In recognition of National Apprenticeship Week, the company is highlighting recent milestones and the growing impact of its apprenticeship programs on careers across Kansas and beyond.
The company is introducing new state-registered apprenticeship opportunities, including engine buildup and youth apprenticeships in avionics and Airframe & Powerplant (A&P). These programs, launching later this year, are designed to create earlier access points into aviation careers, build specialized technical skills and strengthen the long-term workforce pipeline.
In partnership with the Kansas Office of Registered Apprenticeship, programs in Airframe and Powerplant (A&P), avionics, maintenance, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining, tooling and paint are currently offered at Textron Aviation. Each program blends classroom instruction with hands-on training under the guidance of experienced journeypersons. To earn the title of a registered apprentice, participants must complete more than 4,000 hours of training.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly named Textron Aviation one of 12 businesses to receive state funding to grow registered apprenticeship programs across the state. This support is expanding the A&P apprenticeship program in collaboration with WSU Tech, reinforcing a commitment to building Kansas’ workforce pipeline through hands-on training and career development.
The company launched its first state-registered apprenticeship cohort in August 2023. Participants completed the program in August 2025, earning certificates of completion after meeting all Kansas apprenticeship requirements.
The inaugural group, two paint and eight maintenance apprentices, received official certificates of national accreditation from the Kansas Governor Laura Kelly. Their achievement highlights the value of hands-on training, mentorship and career development opportunities available through the company.
“Completing the apprenticeship program is a significant achievement in my career at Textron Aviation,” said Austin Bussey, a program graduate. “The comprehensive skillset I gained has equipped me to support my colleagues and contribute to the company’s success as an industry leader.”
