Textron Aviation demonstrates industry leadership in sustainability efforts through EPA Green Power Partnership and NBAA-BACE Green Pledge
LAS VEGAS (Oct. 11, 2021) – Textron Aviation announced today during the 2021 National Business Aviation Association Convention and Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) that it is leading the business and general aviation industry through its recent recognition by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Green Power Partnership and its voluntary participation in the NBAA-BACE Green Pledge.
Textron Aviation recently joined the U.S. EPA’s Green Power Partnership, a program helping to build the nation’s green power industry by increasing organizations’ voluntary renewable energy use. Using 79 percent renewable energy to power its U.S.-based facilities, Textron Aviation is participating with the highest percentage of green energy out of all business and general aviation manufacturers in the program.
The company uses nearly 212 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, benefitting from Kansas’ abundant, affordable and renewable wind energy through a recent multi-year agreement with Evergy energy company. This agreement provides that the electricity for Textron Aviation’s Kansas facilities will be provided through Evergy’s green energy program, effectively meeting nearly all of these electricity needs with renewable, zero-emission wind energy from Soldier Creek Wind Farm near Manhattan, Kan., in Nemaha County.
“This is a substantial honor, and we are proud to be leading the business and general aviation industry through our renewable energy use and recognition by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,” said Chris Hearne, senior vice president, Engineering and Textron Aviation’s Sustainability Ambassador.
Using green power helps our organization reduce air pollution and lower our emissions footprint, while also sending a message to others across the country that green power can be an affordable, accessible choice.Chris Hearne, senior vice president, Engineering and Textron Aviation’s Sustainability Ambassador
Textron Aviation and other Green Power Partners are helping to reduce the negative health impacts of air emissions, including those related to ozone, fine particles, acid rain and regional haze. According to the U.S. EPA, Textron Aviation’s energy use is equivalent to the electricity use of nearly 22,000 average American homes annually. By transitioning to renewable energy, Textron Aviation has substantially reduced its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In addition to the company’s already established sustainability efforts, and in an effort to make National Business Aviation Association Convention and Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) a more sustainable event, Textron Aviation has joined other exhibitors in the NBAA-BACE Green Pledge.
As a part of this pledge, Textron Aviation is making sustainable trade show decisions in six categories: energy conservation, food and beverage, booth build and graphics, waste management, shipping and packaging and marketing materials. All company-owned Cessna and Beechcraft products on display at Henderson Airport will also be flown to the show using sustainable alternative fuels.
It’s exciting, not only to make sustainable choices for our business, but to see others in the industry coming together to make commitments for a more sustainable future.Chris Hearne, senior vice president, Engineering and Textron Aviation’s Sustainability Ambassador
Textron Aviation continues to make sustainable choices in its business practices to reduce its carbon footprint and improve the communities in which employees live and work.
