Hawker Beechcraft Corporation today announced that its piston-engine powered twin, the Beechcraft Baron, has become the only aircraft in its class to be approved for operations at London City Airport. Due to the airport’s city location and extremely steep (5.5 degree) approach requirements, aircraft must demonstrate the necessary performance capabilities, including a 7.5 degree approach, and receive approval from EASA and London City Airport in order to utilize the airport. Barrie Prescott of Conciair Charter Services, who utilizes a Baron 58 in his charter service, sought the approval and is the first operator with this capability. The approval also includes the current version Baron G58.

“Barrie Prescott is utilizing his Baron as a business tool, recognizing the need for customers to travel to and from London City Airport to take advantage of flights directly to locations in Europe and the U.S.,” said Sean McGeough, HBC president, Europe, Middle East and Africa region. “The Baron not only retains its position of leadership among twin pistons in units sold, but because it continues to outperform its competition when it comes to comfort, versatility, performance and handling.”

Recognized as the twin-engine piston aircraft that pilots aspire to own, the Baron G58 offers unrivaled performance and range/payload capabilities in its segment. Powered by two 300-horsepower Teledyne Continental IO 550-C engines, it can carry four passengers more than 1,000 miles non-stop and climb to 10,000 feet in just 10 minutes. It can take off in less than 2,300 feet and only requires 2,500 feet to land at its maximum landing weight. It also features a premium cabin that provides the best ride of any twin-engine aircraft, including flexible seating that allows for seating of two, four or six people, with the option to reconfigure and remove seats to accommodate mission needs and large baggage items. Its flight deck includes fully integrated Garmin G1000® avionics with a GFC 700 flight control system and new GWX 68 color weather radar.
